TOUR OF THE ISLA DE CORTEGADA
WHAT WILL WE DO ON THIS ROUTE
Cortegada is the smallest isle belonging to the Galician Atlantic Islands Maritime-Terrestrial National Park and the closest one to the shore.
That does not make it lose its charm, but it is the richest in flora and it also has the largest laurel forest in Europe.
This island is barely 6 feet long away from the port of Carril, the town with the biggest clam farming field in all Europe and it’s famous for its clams and the popular gastronomical party of that seafood in particular.
We will be surrounded by clam farming fields and by the people working on them to farm this highly-desired seafood. We will visit the ancient village, in ruins, though some of the houses there are already refurbished while the rest of them are being remodeled.
We will be visiting an island where we will be found in the mouth of the river Ulla, which is navigable up to Pontecesures, where the Jubilee Fluvial-Maritime Tour begins.
We will also see the group of islets that surround Cortegada, such as Malveiras and Briñas islets. However small they may be, these islets represent a wildlife reserve for seabirds during migration times.
This island full of legends and secrets is a place where relax and peace are assured from the moment we arrive.
