Walking through this forest is like entering a fairy tale, where light filters through the leaves and the sounds of nature fill the air.

Thanks to our guide, who will accompany you during the route, you will be able to learn much more about this forest and the entire history of this island.

In addition, it has maritime pine forests that are home to an impressive variety of flora and fauna. From seabirds such as the yellow-legged gull to small mammals and native plants, the island is an example of the richness of nature in its purest state.

History of Cortegada

On this island, currently, there is a hermitage, ”hermitage of the Virgin of Miracles” to which many sick people made pilgrimages. This hermitage was built in the year 1334. The healing faith of this virgin made them go on a pilgrimage to the chapel.

For this reason, a small pilgrim hospital or ‘lazaretto’ was built next to the chapel to treat the sick.
